Tempera
Tempera is a product that uses dispersal asphalt technology (DAT) to reap valuable energy savings during both production and laying that could significantly reduce the contribution the highways sector makes to climate change.
The resultant material looks, behaves and performs like a conventional hot mix asphalt, but a solution added in the bitumen line reduces viscosity, lubricating the bitumen so the stone is fully coated at temperatures on average 30% below those normally required.
Tempera DAT can therefore be laid at a lower temperature compared to standard black top.
These reductions in the need for heating are considerable and translate into fuel savings of 20% and thus a highly significant cut in the combined carbon footprint of black top production and highway surfacing.
