Eurovia Contracting clears backlog through efficient procurement and Early Contractor Involverment

Following a request for assistance from Essex County Council, Eurovia Contracting has been working closely, as part of a new Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), to clear the council’s backlog of signing and lining work.

These works include fulfilling the requirement for the installation, or removal, of disabled parking spaces across the county. Having taken away the stress of the council’s own design and consultancy team, Eurovia Contracting has successfully delivered the required spaces within the agreed time constraints, which has been a major improvement and well received by the client and residents accordingly.

Disabled parking bays offer a safe and suitable location for those who may suffer from mobility impairment. With a backlog of over 200 orders, there was a major need for the residents of Essex - some people had waited over a year for their space - and the council had identified the situation as having reached tipping point.

With the council working to capacity - clearing big works before the start of the new contract with Eurovia - a number of designated minor works remained incomplete. Eurovia were called into County Hall to see how they might be able to assist.

“We appreciated the importance of these bays to the people of Essex and were more than happy to offer our services to decrease a large backlog of work” says Oran Hassan, Supervisor for Eurovia Contracting. “We have been able to work quickly and efficiently through the orders, having had the advantage of taking on all aspects of the job and providing our signing and lining crews with the exact information required.”

In fact, Eurovia took on the entire process, bar issuing the Confirm Order, and agreed an hourly rate to present the best possible value to Essex CC. The council’s Network Management team liaised directly with Oran and supplied him with a set of locations where the new spaces were required. Oran would then recce the sites and submit his orders, drawings and TM assessments.

Once happy with Oran’s submissions, Essex CC issued the confirmed orders and the works were completed in quick-time. The new system employed to clear the council’s backlog has been extremely effective and has been of huge importance to the people of Essex in what has been a perfect start to Eurovia’s work with Essex CC.
