As a local employer in Kent, Ringway prides itself in supporting the local community in which its works. With this in mind, Ringway will be sponsoring the motorbike training of Ringway site agent, Arthur Godden, one of three volunteers who give their free time to helping local charity, Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV), nicknamed the ‘Blood Runners’.
The other Ringway volunteers are divisional plant and fleet manager, Mark White and Pat Doherty, Health, Environment and Safety Advisor.
Arthur said: “SERV has a very strict policy on the use of motorbikes and the need to be correctly qualified. I’m grateful for the help that Ringway is providing to fund my courses. The courses cover hazard perception and much more, followed by an advance course called Direct Access at Kent Police’s training school. Being able to undertake blood transportation by motorbike will cut my journey times by allowing me to avoid congested areas and speeding up the process of saving lives.”
Ringway Divisional Manager (Kent), John Martin commented: “It is important that Ringway supports the local community in which we operate. Previously, we have supplied 50 long sleeve reflective jackets to SERV and we are happy to continue to support Mark, Pat and Arthur in doing a brilliant job. We are proud that Ringway could help this excellent voluntary service.”
SERV Blood Runners transport blood products at short notice to accident and emergency departments across Southern England during the night for free of charge whenever and wherever it’s urgently needed by car or motorbike.
