New road gift from expert team

The Rare Breeds Centre in Woodchurch is boasting a new 250-yard asphalt road thanks to the hard work of volunteers and a team from roadbuilders Ringway.

The new road, which provides a better access for tractors and visitors, was completed over just two weekends.

Members of the Canterbury Oast Trust, a charity for people with learning disabilities and which runs the centre, officially opened the road last week.

The Trust thanked Ringway divisional manager John Martin, operation manager Barrie Lee and Paul Catt from Ringway and Andy Padgham from Kent Highways for their help with creating the new road.

David Jackson, trust chief executive said: "Canterbury Oast Trust are grateful to Ringway for this generous donation in kind. Sound infrastructure at the Rare Breeds Centre is vital to safety and success.

"This new road, which has been completed by the Ringway works in their own time, is an outstanding gift to our charity." Reported by Michael DeFroand, Kentish Express 15/10/09
