The dedication and commitment of people involved in walk to school schemes across Kent will be recognised by an awards scheme.
Nominations are now being taken for the KM Walk to School Awards 2009, after a launch at The Historic Dockyard, Chatham.
At the event, the children's road safety department of the KM Charity Team also unveiled its new website, www.kmwalktoschool.co.uk
The new site has section for each of the three walk to school services, Walking Bus, WOW and Bug.
KM Charity Team chairman Simon Dolby said: "This bright new website offers information, advice and news on our range of walk to school schemes.
"Visitors to the site will be able to nominate the schemes and individuals they want to win an award at the presentation evening in January."
Mr Dolby added that the awards ceremony was an opportunity to highlight the excellent partnerships between schools and parents.
"It also provides a platform for promoting the road safety benefits of walking to school along with the positive environmental impact of the schemes." During the event at the dockyard a Walk to School Forum gave school staff and parents the chance to share experiences of schemes and sway tips.
The walking bus project officer and organiser of the forum, Katie McDaniel, said: "We were delighted witht eh response to this first Walk to School Forum and were extremely grateful to our sponsor, Ringway, for the initial idea and for sponsoring the day.
"The question and answer session was a big hit and gave walking bus volunteers a chance to gain ideas and support from fellow schools.
"A big thank you should also go to the Historic Dockyard for donating the use of the Commissioner's House."
