Leading highway maintenance service provider, Ringway, have launched a new initiative to encourage motorists to slow down through roadworks and protect their employees working on site.
Nicknamed Sam, the aluminium man, is a life size composite material cut out, dressed in full personal protective equipment (ppe) holding a sign which says “Slow down through roadworks”
Group Health, Safety and Environment Manager , David Campbell said” The introduction of Sam is aimed at raising public awareness of the danger of speeding through roadworks, reminding the public that our operatives have families to go home to. The aim is to reduce the number of incidents at and around road works, providing a safer work place for our employees”
He continues “so far this innovation has had a real impact when used on sites with a reduction in the speed of traffic passing through our works as they slow down to take on board the message being communicated”
Ringway take the health and safety of all our employees very seriously, the majority of whom work on the highways, which is a high risk environment. We have introduced a number of innovations in order to make our workplace safer. The proactive approach to Health and Safety that Ringway adopts has again been externally recognised with the award of our eighth RoSPA Gold Award.
