Ringway, a leading highway civil engineering contractor with Head Offices in Springfield Road, Horsham, has been awarded two gold awards by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for its pioneering approach to occupational health and safety along with its management of road risk programme.
These two awards were won by Ringway in the categories ‘RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety’ and ‘Managing Occupational Road Risk’. The former of the two has been awarded to Ringway for an impressive nine consecutive years and recognises the year-on-year improvements that the company has implemented in order to improve its management of health and safety.
“This award is a result of true team effort and reflects the positive culture we have achieved across the business,” says Group Health, Safety and Environment Manager, David Campbell. “Health and Safety has often become a byword for busy-bodies but at Ringway this is really not the case. We highly value the well-being of our staff and see our work in health and safety as vital in producing a positive, rewarding and safe working environment across our business. To be awarded these RoSPA accolades gives the entire team the recognition it deserves for maintaining this important focus, and we are absolutely delighted.”
The award for Managing Road Risk has been achieved for Ringway’s Vigiroute road risk management programme. The robust procedure allows Ringway to manage road risk and clearly observe the volume and type of vehicle incidents which occur within Ringway and manage them accordingly. Ringway’s Vigiroute champions were highly praised for driving this process forward and especially for their commitment to ensuring that driver risk is managed in the same way and with the same enthusiasm and care as all other aspects of health and safety.
As David Campbell explains, Ringway is leading the way in road risk management. “We are moving up a gear in the way we manage road risk: crashes involving commercial vehicles and company cars are seen by some organisations as being outside the normal remit of health and safety. In Ringway we manage road risk in the same way we manage all other risks and have implemented the Vigiroute system. Following this approach we are starting to see a reduction in the number of crashes, which has obvious benefits. It is very rewarding to be externally recognised for the first time this year with RoSPA’s Gold Award.”
The recent success of being awarded double gold is indicative of Ringway’s ethos and commitment to its staff. Investing in the future of both its business requirements and in civil engineering is of paramount importance to Ringway, as evidence in the continual growth of its Graduate Development Programme, Ringway Apprenticeships and Schools Outreach Scheme.
