Ringway, a leading highway maintenance company, has undertaken a series of regeneration projects at a junior school in North Yorkshire to improve both access and recreational facilities free-of-charge, including donating new welcome signs designed by the pupils.
Pupils at the school were asked to design welcome signs as part of a competition organised by head teacher, Sean Thomas, and his staff. The winning design received high praise for its representation of the diversity of the staff and pupils at the school. Ringway then produced a mocked up electronic version of the design for the children to see and alter before supplying the real thing.
“It has been a real pleasure to donate our services to Bullamoor, and we’re looking forward to continuing our great partnership with the school to improve the facilities for the pupils,” says Richard Whitaker, Contracts Manager for Ringway. “Having improved the access around the school and supplying the new signage, our next project will see our engineers build a dragon-shaped seating area for the children to enjoy.”
Ringway invested a great deal of time to make safe the access paths around the school and as well as resurfacing the pathways, Ringway also widened them to allow for pushchairs to move freely across the site. While this work was being completed the site design was also adapted to include semi-circular enclaves around the doors, further improving access and safety for pupils.
Ringway also replaced two manhole covers, raised three rodding boxes and replaced a fourth rodding box which was broken. The manhole covers were replaced with a new plastic variety to increase the skid resistance and prevent the children slipping, the previous covers were steel and became very slippery when wet presenting hazards and the potential risk of injury.
Ringway is committed to its programme of corporate, social responsibility and places a keen focus on working with the communities it operates around. The work at Bullamoor will continue with the new dragon-shaped seating area scheduled to begin later this year and will provide the pupils with an engaging and fun addition to the recreational facilities at the school.
