Mark Moody, Contracts Manager at Eurovia, ran in one of the largest marathons in the UK recently to raise money for a charity close to his heart.
Mark, who travelled to Newcastle to participate in the Great North Run, joined 54,000 runners including top athletes, taking part in the 13.1 mile course. Despite sporting an injury on the day, Mark completed the course in a respectable 2 hours 26 seconds, to raise money for Alzheimer’s UK.
“The atmosphere was fantastic. There was huge support from the crowds cheering us on, despite the heavy rain half way round drenching everybody” said Mark. “The fly over from the Red Arrows was particularly emotional this year. I would recommend everybody experience a half marathon, whether you are a runner or not, it is a great way to keep fit, stay healthy and raise money for charity all at the same time.”
Mark’s mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2006 at the tender age of 52 years old, which came as a big shock to him. Since the diagnosis, Mark has supported both Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society through numerous fundraising efforts including, jumping out of an aeroplane and several marathons. Over the last two years he has managed to raise almost £20,000. Mark has plans for Wing Walking and to take part in the Bangers Home2Rome challenge next year to continue supporting the charity.
