Joint Sealing and Grooving

The process of joint and crack sealing is a preventative maintenance technique designed to seal the surface layers against the ingress of water and to prevent

Joint sealing options available as follows:

  • Overseal Banding is a cost-effective hot applied process to treat random cracks on a road surface. Joint Sealing can either be hot or cold applied, conforming with BS2499 or BS5212 respectively.
  • Inlaid Crack Sealing is recessed into the surface and filled with a polymer- modified, flexible bituminous compound which provides a long lasting solution for repairing cracks and surface defects in bituminous road surfaces, as well as cracks and failed joints in concrete roads, runways, taxiways and hardstandings. The process is HAPAS/BB A approved.

The combined effect of stiffer design mix asphalt and increasing vehicle weights, together with the longer service life demanded of surfaces and current financial restraints, make these maintenance treatments an increasingly popular option.

Mechanical grooving of concrete and other surfaces around airport infrastructure quickly restores texture and water-shedding properties of pavements. Teams operate small grooving units that can rapidly treat small, complex areas or larger-scale surfaces where multiple units can be deployed.
