We are proud to announce the successful completion of the Boundary Way Dutch-style roundabout (the fourth in the country) in Hemel Hempstead—an innovative Active Travel Fund scheme delivered on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council. This project prioritises pedestrians and cyclists, creating a safer, more inclusive environment for all road users.

The new roundabout includes dedicated cycle lanes, improved pedestrian crossings, and wider footways, making it easier and safer for everyone to get around. It also connects two sections of Buncefield Lane's quietway, improving access and encouraging the continuity of active travel.

The project was a collaborative effort, requiring the expertise of our skilled team in Hertfordshire and close cooperation with various supply chain partners. Despite its challenges—including the need to redesign deep drainage elements due to existing service conflicts—our team led the way in adapting the design to reduce both risk and cost for Hertfordshire County Council. Additional works were incorporated at the clients request to create a continuous link from Green Lane to the roundabout, and the team responded swiftly to evolving needs, including facilitating HGV and wide-load deliveries to the industrial area and managing the closure of Buncefield Lane for vegetation clearance and width restriction removal. All of this was delivered within the original programme.

Starting in January and completed in June—two weeks ahead of schedule—this project stands as a testament to the dedication, flexibility, and commitment to excellence shown by everyone involved.

The Boundary Way roundabout exemplifies Ringway's approach to delivering smarter, safer, and more sustainable infrastructure for our communities.
